A teacher demonstrates the birth process with a balloon and a ping pong ball (@brookeebernal)

Brock Bernal has been a high school teacher in consumer and family sciences for the past four years.

Each year, during the final part of the study unit, Brock's students receive a lesson and demonstrations of everything that happens during childbirth.

To illustrate to her students what exactly happens during childbirth, Brock uses a balloon and a ping pong ball.

This year, because of distance learning she filmed the demo and also uploaded it to Tic Tac - where the video garnered nearly 5 million views.

In the video, the ping pong ball symbolizes the baby and the balloon the woman's uterus and cervix.

She explained to her students: "After you put the ball (baby) in the balloon (uterus), you inflate the balloon and move the baby towards the birth canal. During the contraction we see the baby move towards the cervix, which expands enough so that the baby can come out. .

"this demonstration is usually not disturbing my students," Brock said, "they're just surprised that a pingpong ball can fit into the hole of the balloon and the balloon can be stretched so without exploding.

This is a good illustration for them. "

Brock, who is now carrying her third child in her womb, says it is important for all her students to learn about the birth process because it is a natural part of life." My husband had no idea how a baby was born when I was pregnant with the first child, so if I can provide "This basic information for my students now, I actually provide them with tools to understand and feel comfortable and confident when they reach this stage."

Nice eh?

Just not really accurate

Let us be petty for a moment and deny that there is a small problem with this demonstration - and that is that the birth canal is actually not above the cervix as shown in Bernal's video.

The cervix is just outside the uterus and the birth canal is the vagina below it.

So in a real birth, what you see happening in the video with the cervix would have happened before the baby goes through the birth canal (which is, in fact, what allows the baby to do that).

The following video from 2017, which may have inspired her (although Bernal told BuzzFeed that she saw the idea in a group of teachers on Facebook and was not sure what its source was) illustrates this a little more clearly:
