(ANSA) - BRESCIA, 01 NOV - The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has chosen the province of Brescia to honor the victims of Covid-19.
This morning, on All Saints' Day and on the eve of the commemoration of the dead, the president landed at the Montichiari airport, to then go to the Castegnato cemetery, where on 7 September iladri had stolen the tombstone in memory of the Coronavirus dead, which in the province of Brescia were 2,751.
Mattarella was welcomed by hundreds of residents who come to the cemetery to pay tribute to their relatives.
The visit lasted a few minutes and at the exit from the cemetery Mattarella was applauded by the people and then paused with the members of the municipal council.
"I thought it was a joke. They called me last night and I thought it was a Halloween joke. I still haven't understood why he chose Castegnato," said Gianluca Cominassi, the mayor of the country chosen by the President of the Republic.
"The President told me that the theft of the cross on the monument for the victims of Covid disturbed him a lot. I am very excited".
