(ANSA) - CAGLIARI, 02 NOV - The Assize Court of Cagliari has sentenced Giovanni Perria to 24 years for voluntary murder, the 78-year-old retired person from Narbolia (Oristano) accused of killing his wife of German origin, Brigitte Pazdernik, 77, who has disappeared from home on 10 October 2018 and found three days later by the lifeless sea.

According to the indictment, the man allegedly did it to avenge a betrayal of 40 years earlier.

Defended by the lawyer Antonello Spada, Perria has always professed himself innocent.

At the reading of the sentence, a daughter of the accused was taken ill.

The accused was in the courtroom, in silence, next to his defender.

He did not even open his mouth when he heard the President of the Court, Tiziana Marogna, read the sentence that sentenced him to 24 years in prison for the murder of his wife.

But he collapsed when he saw one of his daughters, the only one present in the classroom, on the ground screaming in despair.

She did not bear the sentence: struck by an illness she was rescued by the chancellors and by her father's defense lawyer, AntonelloSpada.

However, the Court did not accept the request for life sentence formulated by prosecutor Armando Mammone.

The judges considered the generic mitigating agents equivalent to the aggravating circumstances of premeditation and auxoricide.

The judges then reserved to decide at a later time whether to postpone Perria's jail, as requested by the prosecution.

His precautionary measure is suspended for Covid, but the prosecutor fears for the safety of the super witness, the neighbor who with his testimony nailed the pensioner.

This is why he urged his return to prison.
