It was not until the exhibition "David Bowie Is", at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, in 2013, to know the list of the rock star's bedside books.
That is to say a hundred titles considered by him as the most important and influential.
Self-taught having left school at 16 with an art school diploma, Bowie was still living with his parents on the outskirts of London when his passion for literature first manifested itself.
Many years later, he was even given the task of writing literary reviews for the American bookstore chain Barnes & Noble.
