When they discovered the animal in the dunes, the children were probably amazed: Not far from the German border, a Danish kindergarten group found a large turtle.
The Tønnisgård Nature Center published photos of the find on Facebook.
They show how the children curiously bend over the dead animal.
According to the nature center, it is an exotic leatherback turtle that washed up on a beach in the North Schleswig region near the North Sea island of Romo during a night storm.
According to the recordings, the animal is about two meters tall.
As reported by the Danish regional broadcaster TV Syd, such a turtle has only been driven ashore in Denmark for the fifth time since 1948.
According to the broadcaster, the children had taken a walk on the Wadden Sea with their educators on Tuesday when they made the special find.
They then notified the nearby nature center.
