(ANSA) - MANAGUA, 04 NOV - Hurricane Eta, evolving on the territory of Nicaragua in the direction of Honduras, today reduced its strength from 4 to category 2, but according to the heads of the National System of prevention, mitigation and assistance for disasters (Sinapred) the accumulation of water generated by the meteorological phenomenon can cause efrane floods, so "we must not let our guard down".
The recommendation, reports the La Prensa newspaper in Managua, was made by Guillermo Gonzalez, director of Sinapred, that Bilwi was the most affected by the Eta crossing, and that yesterday all the families residing in the so-called 'Triangulo Minero' were evacuated, especially those who lived near the rivers of the region.
The newspaper stresses that it is not yet possible to quantify the damage caused to infrastructure and residences, plantations and livestock, while a provisional toll of three deaths in Nicaragua and Honduras has been confirmed.
In its latest bulletin today, the Miami National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that ETA is moving towards a rapid attenuation of its strength, transforming itself into a tropical storm with winds of 110 km / h.
According to the NHC, Eta's movement is westward at a speed of 13 km / h, and is expected to cross Nicaragua today, increasing its speed towards Honduras, where it will arrive tomorrow.
