Corona: More child benefit from 2021 - this is how the child benefit increases from January

Update from November 3rd, 2020:

Many families can

look forward to

more child benefit from 2021

.

After a plus of 10 euros last summer, there should

be another 15 euros more per month from 2021

.

This was decided by the Bundestag on October 30, 2020.

According to a report by the German Press Agency,

this

means

360 euros more

for

a family with two children over the year

.

Specifically, the child benefit for the first and second child is to increase to 219 euros per month from January 2021, for the third child to 225 euros and from the fourth child to 250 euros

, as dpa reported.

In addition, the

child

tax

allowance

should be

increased by more than 500 euros to 8,388 euros.

Parents should know that

: You can either use

child benefit

or

child allowance

, as the report goes on to say.

The tax exemption reduces

income tax

and is therefore particularly worthwhile for

high earners

.

The tax office checks which help brings more for which family.

Relief for families in the corona crisis, but also criticism

Families had it

particularly difficult

in the past few months of the

corona crisis

.

That is why the Bundestag had already decided on a child bonus for the time of crisis.

The increase in child benefit will now also help, emphasized the Union and the SPD.

Meanwhile, the opposition criticized, according to the dpa, that the

higher tax exemptions

relieve families who do not have to.

Families with very low incomes, on the other hand, would not benefit at all because the child benefit is offset against Hartz-IV.

But not only families should be relieved.

What about income tax?

Whether parents, couples or singles - all

taxpayers

will be financially relieved in the coming year, as the report also says.

The

basic

tax-free allowance, on which one does not have to pay taxes, will be increased from 9,408 euros to 9,696 euros.

The limit from which the 42 percent top tax rate is required will rise from 57,052 euros to an annual income of 57,919 euros.

A further increase in these income limits is planned for 2022.

According to calculations by the taxpayers' association, for example,

singles

with a monthly gross of 2,500 euros would save only 6 euros per month, reports dpa.

In a family with two children, a

single

earner

with a monthly income of 6,000 euros would also save around 15 euros per month - but here at least the higher child benefit is added.

Among other things, the

care of relatives is to be given greater tax benefits

, as the report also says.

The

flat-rate

care fee for the two highest care levels will therefore be increased to 1,800 euros per year and thus almost doubled.

For the lower care levels two and three, which have not previously been considered, a lump sum of 600 and 1,100 euros respectively will be granted in the future.

According to estimates by the Ministry of Health, more than half a million people could benefit from this, as reported by the dpa.
