They are supposed to save lives and are under enormous pressure, especially in the corona crisis: Prince William has called for greater attention to the mental health of rescue workers.
"The outbreak of Covid-19 posed a particular challenge for rescue workers," said the Duke of Cambridge at the presentation of the "Spirit of Fire Awards 2020".
In these times it is more important than ever that first responders also know where they can get support, he said in an online ceremony organized by the Fire Fighters Charity on Wednesday.
William awarded a special award to Shilla Patel, a London Fire Brigade employee, for setting up a network for the mental health of first responders.
Prince William and his wife Kate (both 38) have been campaigning for employees in systemically important professions for a long time.
At the end of October, the couple presented a Pride of Britain Award to the NHS on behalf of the nation for its service during the coronavirus pandemic.
In April, William and Kate started the Our Frontline network to provide first aiders and healthcare workers with psychological counseling.
