World no.9 Diego Schwartzman is just one win from his first qualification for the Masters, which will close the season in London, after beating Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich (# 63) 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16 Masters 1000 in Paris.
Schwartzman will face Russian Daniil Medvedev (5) or Australian Alex De Minaur (25) on Friday for a place in the last four.
The 28-year-old Argentine, a recent semi-finalist at Roland Garros, is in an ideal position to snatch the last ticket available for the Masters at the end of the year, confirmed from 15 to 22 November in London behind closed doors, due to the health crisis.
Only Pablo Carreno still has a small chance to stop him from joining the lot of tennis players who will be on the pitch in London. If Carreno is defeated on Thursday against Slovakian Norbert Gombos, Schwartzman will officially qualify for London, where the eight best players of the season will be on stage.
