The news that the national government enabled face-to-face classes in the universities lit a light of hope for the hundreds of thousands of students who attend the University of Buenos Aires.
Now does this mean they will be back in the classroom soon?
Do you already have to prepare for the "new normal"?
For now it is not so, step by step the Racing champion technician would say.
Consulted by
Clarín
, from the UBA they said that they
already have a protocol approved
by the national Ministry of Education.
And
now they await the approval of the City of Buenos Aires
.
The idea, however, is
to advance very little by little
.
In the first instance, only with
students who are taking some practicals in some subjects in four faculties
: Agronomy, Veterinary, Exact and Dentistry.
In total, there are
about 5,000 students
who are in this condition, out of 320,000 that the UBA has.
That is,
1.5%
.
What about the Medicine practices?
From the UBA they say that the situation is different, because the authorization depends on each of the hospitals where the students do their internships.
And there the situation is complicated, because all are doomed to the requirements posed by the pandemic.
Anyway, they see the authorization for face-to-face classes in universities published today in the Official Gazette as good news, and
a step
towards a possible new normal in university cloisters.
In principle, it allows activities to be resumed in
research institutes
, while the administrative part of the university is reincorporated, they say.
“This allows us to see
a 2021 with better possibilities
.
We are prepared for three possible scenarios: to follow everything
in virtuality
(as before), for a
semi-
presence
and for
a presence
as in the previous normality.
It will be necessary to see in what epidemiological situation we are going to be next year, if there is a second wave or is the vaccine.
It is not possible to know, but we are prepared for all the alternatives ”,
the rector of the UBA, Alberto Barbieri
told
Clarín
.
Asked if with the new official authorization they are thinking of expanding
face-to-face exams
, Barbieri said that the criterion is to
always prioritize students from recent years
, so that they can conclude this year with a good completion of their careers.
Regarding the CBC, he said that it is not possible to think about face-to-face exams now, because they would be massive and the epidemiological reality does not allow it at this time.
“A month ago we presented to the Nation the return protocol limited to some university activities.
And they gave us the okey.
They told us that we had to refer him to the City, so that they could enable activities according to the epidemiological situation.
Now we are waiting for that return from the City.
When we have it they started ”said Barbieri.
The Argentine university system has 57 national universities plus as many private ones.
What today's resolution does is delegate the authorizations to each of the jurisdictions who, depending on the health situation of each one, must decide whether to allow each of the houses of higher studies to advance towards presence.
