were based on suspected
Listeria
contamination
.
These bacteria can be life-threatening for certain people.
* At this point it was stated earlier that it was "the second recall" by the manufacturer in a short time. This is not true insofar as the first recall concerned in-house products and the second with products that were sold under the Bastiaansen brand. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Cheese recall: Listeria are a health hazard
When
Listeria
is
food germs
.
The germs are found almost all over the world.
They can also survive well at refrigerator temperatures.
The bacteria often find their way
into
dairy products
during milking.
The germs can also get into food
through
contamination of
the production facility.
For humans,
however
, the
bacteria
only become dangerous
if there are
100 or more germs per gram.
The listeria can then cause what is known as
listeriosis
.
This manifests itself through symptoms such as
fever, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
.
The incubation period is between three days and three weeks.
Danger from Listeria: Pregnant women are particularly at risk - cheese on call back
If the course is mild, the symptoms subside within a few days.
In so-called
risk groups
, however, the consequences can have serious consequences.
For example,
blood poisoning
and
meningitis can be
triggered.
A full 30 percent of seriously ill people die from these consequences.
In
pregnant women
, listeriosis can have serious consequences for the unborn child.
In the worst case, this can even
lead
to a
miscarriage
.
According to the consumer advice center, 700 infections per year are detected in Germany.
