A small victory in the mountain chase that has lasted for a month.

After escaping, with fellow creatures, from the Alpha park in Saint-Martin-Vésubie (Alpes-Maritimes) destroyed by storm Alex on October 2, a new wolf was captured on Saturday evening, November 7 by the agents of the OFB.

She is the alpha female of the Canadian pack.

A black wolf from Canada was also caught alive Thursday at dawn, thanks to a shot from a hypodermic rifle.

These two captures are therefore added to those of four other animals that occurred in the wake of the devastating floods.

However, the mission is far from over for the agents deployed there: there are still five wolves on the run, four of them from the Canadian pack.

They risk starving

“There is a lot of work in the area, which disrupts them.

They change place.

One shot, we see them on the right, one shot on the left, it's difficult.

However, we saw the male and female Alpha again, which we had not heard from for a while, explains Eric Hansen, Paca-Corsica interregional director of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB).

Until now, they have benefited from many sources of food, from storm-killed beasts or leftover freezers thrown into the wild.

There, we think they will start to get hungry.

We are therefore going to set up feeding sites and photo traps, to fix them by changing the strategy which consisted of chasing them… ”

Thursday, November 2, a black wolf from Canada was captured after being anesthetized by a shot from the hypodermic rifle.

Hurry up.

Because, according to him, “no testimony proves that these captive animals managed to catch live prey.

There is a risk that they will starve, especially since the pack has split up ”.

The mystery is however lifted on the fate of the arctic white wolf which was missing, while two others had been found dead in the park.

Recently, someone deemed "trustworthy" saw this clearly.

He would now be in ... another valley.
