Dead of Covid Ro Marcenaro, cartoonist of political satire

The well-known illustrator, writer and director Ro Marcenaro died at the age of 83. He died in Reggio Emilia last night, after some complications due to the coronavirus. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - REGGIO EMILIA, 09 NOV - The well-known illustrator, writer and director Ro Marcenaro died at the age of 83.

He died in Reggio Emilia last night, after some complications due to the coronavirus.

Genoese by birth, he was from time to time resident in San Martino in Rio, in the Bassa Reggiana.


    He was among the first to make animated drawings in Italy, creating advertising spots (the most famous is that of the 1970s by Fernet Branca made with plasticine) but also music videos like the whole album 'Matto come un gatto' by Gino Paoli.


   The artist then made himself known to the great public especially with his comics of political satire (in '93 he won the coveted 'Forte dei Marmi' award) for many newspapers and magazines including Panorama, Il Friday di Repubblica, La Gazzettadello Sport, Epoca, Expansion, Union Rassdgna and L'Europeo.


    He has also directed some private TVs, from Tvs in Genoa to Tele Ciocco and Telereggio. And from his pencil were also born some stamps for the State of San Marino, one of these won the award as the best of the year. Among his works are the fantapolitical novels 'The White Diaspora', 'Ilmanifesto del Comunista Party in comics', 'Il Candido' by Voltaire, 'The Gospel of Mark', 'The Baron of Munchausen' and last this year, The illustrated Italian Constitution '.
