More than 15 million mink are said to be killed in Denmark because they spread a mutation of the coronavirus. Serious errors are said to have occurred during the cull.

More than 200 people are said to have been infected with a mutation of the coronavirus in Denmark.

This variant was particularly common in North Jutland, where there are a particularly large number of mink farms.

Sars-CoV-2 was found in 216 breeding facilities across the country.

Because the so-called Cluster 5 virus can be transmitted from animals to humans, the Danish government ordered the killing of all mink - around 15 to 17 million fur animals.

Now a Danish animal welfare organization has turned to the public and filed a complaint.

During the mass culling of minks, there were considerable errors that resulted in animal cruelty.

A video is circulating on social media that shows how dead and living animals are crushed together on a mink farm in Northern Jutland in an unsuccessful killing by employees of the state food authority.

The animal welfare organization Dyrenes Beskyttelse announced that it was shocked by the procedure, which was nothing other than cruelty to animals.

The authorities had to ensure that the fur animals were culled correctly.

"These are completely inadmissible images that we are witnessing. That is heartbreaking and simply must not happen," said the head of the animal welfare department at the organization, Yvonne Johansen.

Even if the authorities have to carry out a large number of killings in a short period of time, consideration must be given to each individual animal.

The police should now check in their investigations who is responsible for the wrong approach.

According to Dyrenes Beskyttelse, the animals are gassed in the mass slaughter just as if they were made into fur.
