River waters in Russia turned blood red (Andrey German)

Mystery in Russia: Several rivers in the huge country changed their water color to a strong and bright red, which left the residents frightened and mostly confused.

Locals also claim that the animals refuse to enter the "toxic" water, and local media reported that a police investigation has been opened in an attempt to understand what caused the water to change color to a blood-like color.

This phenomenon began in the Isquitima River which runs along the banks of the Kemerovo, an industrial city in southwestern Siberia.

The municipality of Kemerovo is trying to find the source of the red spots after a number of complaints from residents.

One of them described the phenomenon and said: "It looks like borscht (beetroot soup), but it's probably more toxic. The water looks toxic."

"There are no ducks in the river, they are all crowded on the water's edge," another added.

Environmental experts say there is a chance that the red color of the water was created as a result of a blockage in the drain, but the chemical that caused the color change is still a mystery.

Andrei Panov, the deputy governor of Kemerovo, claims that "the stormwater drainage system in the city is a possible source of water pollution."

The police, on the other hand, are examining the possibility that this is a man-made act and are concerned that the nearby cities are in health danger as a result of this water.

This color is spreading to other rivers like the Gbuzdinia River and currently no one has a wire tip which has caused this.
