Anneliese Friedmann is dead. The partner of the Süddeutsche Verlag ("Süddeutsche Zeitung") and former publisher of the Munich "Abendzeitung" died last Saturday at the age of 93 in Munich.

The Südwestdeutsche Medienholding (SWMH), to which the Süddeutsche Verlag mainly belongs, announced this to the dpa news agency.

The "Süddeutsche Zeitung" had previously reported.

Friedmann not only made a career as a publisher and editor, but also as a journalist.

Early on in her professional life she worked for the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".

She later became known to a wide audience with her column in the magazine "Stern", which appeared under the pseudonym "Sibylle".

The texts dealt with politics, society, fashion and style.

The publicist was married to Werner Friedmann.

For a time he was editor-in-chief of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".

He was also a partner of the Süddeutscher Verlag and editor of the Munich tabloid "Abendzeitung".

After his death in 1969 Anneliese Friedmann took over as editor of the "Abendzeitung" for many years.

In addition, after his death, she joined the group of shareholders of Süddeutscher Verlag - and, according to SWMH, was a partner there until her death.

Part of the publishing house still belongs to the Friedmann family.

Model for the cult TV series "Kir Royal"?

In recent years, Anneliese Friedmann was repeatedly attributed in media reports that she had served as a model for Helmut Dietl's cult television series "Kir Royal" from the 1980s, about the life of a gossip reporter and the publisher of a tabloid in Munich.

In 2013 Anneliese Friedmann received one of the most important journalism awards in Germany: the Henri Nannen Prize for her life's work as a journalist.

Kurt Kister, former SZ editor-in-chief, wrote in his obituary: "She was a clever colleague, a great publisher and lucky for Munich."

The media group SWMH said on Monday: "We are very grateful to Anneliese Friedmann for her commitment to the" Süddeutsche Zeitung ". We wish her family strength and consolation in this difficult time.
