(ANSA) - LOS ANGELES, 09 NOV - The Walther PP pistol used by Sean Connery in the first James Bond film will go to auction next month in Los Angeles, with a base between 150 thousand and 200 thousand dollars.
The great Scottish actor, who passed away last month at the age of 90 in his home in the Bahamas, used the pistol in the 1962 film "Dr. No", which began the very successful saga of the British secret agent.
"The silhouette of 007 holding this gun will become the most iconic image in the James Bond franchise and one of the most recognizable pop culture references of all times," said Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien's auction house.
In "Dr. No" the heads of the British Secret Service order a reluctant Bond to ditch his old malfunctioning Beretta pistol for Walther, which he "hits like a brick through a window".
The Walther versions will remain 007's signature firearm, for nearly 25 movies.
Bond's gun will be one of more than 500 items at the "Icons & Idols TRILOGY: Hollywood" auction taking place in Beverly Hills and online on December 3rd.
Other noteworthy memorabilia will include a racing helmet worn by Tom Cruise in "TopGun" and a leather biker jacket worn by ArnoldSchwarzenegger in "Terminator 2".
