The recently deceased actor Sean Connery used a Walther PP pistol when he first appeared as a secret agent in "James Bond - 007 Chasing Dr. No".

The famous weapon is now to be auctioned in Beverly Hills.

It is estimated at $ 150,000 to $ 200,000, said Julien's Auctions.

That is the equivalent of around 127,000 to 169,000 euros.

After the death of the film legend, a photo of Sean Connery holding the pistol in his hand is said to adorn the auction catalog.

The silhouette of 007 with the gun is the "iconic image" of the Bond series and one of the "most famous references of pop culture of all time," said Martin Nolan, chairman of Julien's Auctions.

Different versions of the Walther pistol remained Bond's trademark for 25 films.

The Scottish actor died on October 31st at the age of 90 in the Bahamas.

Connery was the first James Bond actor - and for many fans the best too.

He played the British secret agent seven times between 1962 and 1983.

More than 500 Hollywood memorabilia will go under the hammer at the "Icons & Idols" auction on December 3rd, including costumes and items from stars such as John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, John Travolta, Greta Garbo and Elizabeth Taylor.

Further highlights are a "Terminator" leather jacket by Arnold Schwarzenegger and a pilot helmet that Tom Cruise wore in 1986 in "Top Gun".

Both pieces have an estimated value of $ 30,000 to $ 50,000.

Sean Connery made his breakthrough as an actor with the role as Ian Fleming's secret agent 007 in "James Bond Chases Dr. No".

One of the greatest commercial successes in film history followed with "Goldfinger" from 1965.

To this day, many consider Connery the best Bond actor.
