Thanks to the experience gained in the mobile sector with processors for iPhone and iPad (the latest is the A14), the Cupertino giant has developed a chip that promises double the speed and a quarter of consumption compared to the competition.
The M1 chip equips the new MacBook Air, which ensures CPUs up to 3.5 times faster and GPUs up to 5 times faster.
Compared to the previous generation, export a project with iMovie three times faster, for example, and integrate 3D effects into a video in Final Cut Pro 5 times faster.

The MacBook Pro with M1 chip promises a 2.8x faster CPU and up to 5x faster graphics.
The strong point is the battery, which reaches the milestone of 20 hours of autonomy.
The laptop features a 13.3-inch Retina screen.
Ram, storage space and inputs are similar to those of the MacBook Air, while the weight rises to 1.4 kg.
The piece starts at 1,479 euros, and the colors are silver and space gray.
With M1 also the Mac mini.
"CPU up to 3 times faster, graphics up to 6 times faster and the most advanced Neural Engine, which ensures performance up to 15 times better for machine learning", introduces Apple.
Like the two laptops, it has 8 GB of unified memory and 256 or 512 GB SSDs.
The dimensions are very small - 19.7x19.7x3.6cm, weight of 1.2 kg - and the price starts at just over 800 euros.
All three computers come with Big Sur operating system.
Already available for pre-order, they will go on sale next week.
