With the

279 deaths

reported on Tuesday night by the Ministry of Health of the Nation, Argentina adds a total of 34,183 deaths from coronavirus, and thus surpasses Bolivia in the number of deaths from covid-19 per million inhabitants .

This change in relative position in the international comparison - according to data compiled by

Worldometer

- leaves the country in

position number eight

among those that registered the most deaths in the world from covid-19 in relation to its total population.

This parameter has been registering an increase in the country, in relation to other countries, for several weeks.

After having surpassed Sweden (on October 18) and Italy (on October 22), on Monday, November 2, Argentina passed to the United Kingdom, two days later it left Mexico and Ecuador behind, and last Friday it reached a number deaths from covid-19 per million inhabitants higher than that of the United States, one of the countries most questioned for its strategy against the pandemic.

In the last hours, in terms of mortality registered in relation to its population, the country became

Argentina now has

754 deaths per million inhabitants

and is the 8th country with the most deaths in relation to its population, immediately behind Chile, which has 762 deaths per million inhabitants.

Bolivia this Wednesday has 751 fatalities of covid-19 per million inhabitants.

When the main Argentine figures of the pandemic are compared with those of Bolivia, it is seen that with a population that is close to four times that of Bolivia (45.3 million against 11.7 million inhabitants),

Argentina multiplies almost by nine the number of covid-19 cases in Bolivia

(1.26 million vs. 142,664).

In relation to the number of deaths registered by the disease, Argentina already adds 34,183 against 8,808 in Bolivia.

These figures should be analyzed, among other things, in light of the intensity of the work that each country is doing to detect and register cases.

And in that sense, Argentina did more tests than Bolivia, always according to

Worldometer

data

: 3.29 million (72,549 per million inhabitants) against 341,225 (29,089 per million inhabitants).

Chile, the country that is now immediately ahead of Argentina in terms of the number of deaths per million inhabitants, had 762 deaths per million inhabitants this Wednesday,

eight more than our country

.

Argentina is now the fourth country in Latin America in terms of fatal victims of the pandemic in relation to its population, behind Peru (1,056 deaths per million inhabitants), Brazil (764) and Chile (762).

All of them are in the current situation having carried out

more tests than Argentina

.

Consulted by

Clarín

, Jorge Aliaga, doctor in Physics, former dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences of the UBA and one of the most attentive followers of the figures of the pandemic in Argentina, points out with emphasis that

the number of deaths in the country in very high

, beyond comparisons with other states.

Aliaga

questions the usefulness of a table

that compares deaths in relation to the number of inhabitants, because, he says, there are no unified criteria or degrees of precision that make international figures comparable.

He sees a possible under-registration of deaths from covid-19, both in our country and in others.

After the first initial two weeks of the quarantine, the strictest, many followed in which the number of cases increased and with them, of course, the number of deaths, Aliaga explained.

"Just a couple of weeks ago, the cases began to decline. Although growth was never so explosive, it was maintained for many weeks. As cases did not decrease,

the deaths accumulated; little by little, but they accumulated,

" explained the scientific.
