New York Governor Andrew Cuomo orders a squeeze on restaurants and bars to contain the coronavirus: in the state they will have to close at 10pm, as well as gyms.
In homes, the maximum number of people who can meet is set at ten.
"We are seeing a leap in cases nationwide and globally," says Cuomo, explaining the 10pm 'curfew' decision for licensed liquor restaurants and bars.
A decision that follows the alarm sounded by the mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio.
"This is our last chance to stop a second wave. We can do it, but we have to act now," tweeted de Blasio.
The 10-person limit in private residences precedes the Thanksgiving Day celebrations, which falls on the last Thursday of November and for which there is great alert.
The fear is linked to the homecoming of university students and the expected displacement of thousands of people for family celebrations.
