Kamala Harris
, who will become the first vice president of the United States, will inhabit the luxurious residence that has been home to all vice presidents since 1977.
The Democrat will move into Rotunda No. 1 of the Naval Observatory, which was built in 1893, next year and will live there during her vice presidency.
The construction located in Washington DC was initially inhabited by the superintendent of the observatory.
After 50 years, the United States Congress chose to restore it and make it the official residence of the vice presidents.
Walter Mondale

Jimmy Carter's
right-hand man
, was the first to occupy it.
The property has 33 rooms on three levels and has about 12 acres of land.
