(ANSA) - CATANZARO, 11 NOV - The judges of the Court of Assis of Catanzaro have sentenced Antonio Pontoriero to 22 years of imprisonment for voluntary murder, accused of having shot and killed, on 2 June 2018, the unionist of the Usb and bracer of origin Malian Soumayla Sacko.
The 29-year-old boy, together with a friend, had gone to the disused factory in "Tranquilla", in San Calogero, a small town in the Vibonese area, to recover iron sheets useful for building a makeshift shelter in the slum, later evicted, of San Ferdinando (Reggio Calabria) where he lived.
For the accusation, the motive for the murder is to be found in the inability, on the part of Pontoriero, to endure the umpteenth raid in the area of the former Fornace which he considers to be invasive.
Voluntary murder, illegal possession and carrying of firearms and ammunition are the alleged crimes.
The body of Soumayla Sacko - the father of a 5-year-old girl - was transported to his village in Mali to be buried.
