A hand disinfectant gel is being recalled due to the risk of poisoning and the lack of a permit.
Until recently, it was available in Edeka and Marktkauf branches.
Offenburg - In the
corona pandemic
, it is
one of the most popular products
alongside toilet paper and
mouth and nose protection
: the
disinfectant
.
What is actually supposed to protect against infection with the
coronavirus
,
in one case
, puts
consumers
at risk itself.
In a public
recall
on the
Edeka
website,
the supermarket chain warns of a product that was offered both in its own branches and at Marktkauf.
Specifically, branches in southwest Germany, i.e. in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, southern Hesse and parts of Bavaria, are affected.
Both the 50 ml and 100 ml sizes are being
recalled *
.
The
product
comes from Mir24, a wholesaler for alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, cosmetics and delicatessen.
Recall of disinfectants: Toxic overdose - damage to health can occur
The reason for the recall is the
toxic effect of
the high amount of
methanol
(65.3 g or 68.7 g per 100 g).
In particular, if the contents are swallowed, in contact with the skin or if they are inhaled,
damage to health is
possible.
In addition, the manufacturer has no
authorization
to sell
the
hand disinfectant gel
.
The product container is not equipped with the required child-resistant lock.
Therefore
Edeka
advises
against
using the gel.
As a precaution, EDEKA Südwest has now taken all items out of the branches immediately.
Consumers
who have
already purchased
the hand
gel
can also
return
the item to the branch
in which they bought it
without the relevant receipt
.
Edeka will reimburse the purchase price.
