Vaccines: funds on the rise but still very insufficient

2020-11-12T18:47:50.589Z

The funding announced at the Paris Peace Forum should make it possible to guarantee “equitable” access to vaccines throughout the world.

It’s been true that this is what happened to you.

These announcements are made within the framework of the Paris Peace Forum, an international conference created in 2018, devoted to issues of governance and multilateralism.

Its third edition, dedicated to the end of the pandemic and the post-Covid-19, takes place as the number of cases explodes and promising vaccine trials have been unveiled by Pfizer.

The funding announced during the Forum is intended for the “ACT accelerator”, a device set up at the end of April by the World Health Organization (WHO), France, the European Commission and the Gates Foundation.

Its objective is to guarantee

“equitable

access

in the world, in particular to less developed countries, to nearly 3 billion vaccines, treatments and tests.

Paris should announce a contribution of 100 million euros, Madrid of 50 and the European Commission of 100. London would pledge to pay a pound for four dollars brought by other donors.

For its part, the Gates Foundation has pledged an additional $ 70 million.

Enough to bail out, a little, a huge project whose total amount was estimated at 38 billion dollars by the WHO in early September.

At that date, barely $ 3 billion had been announced.

The World Bank has since announced the payment of $ 12 billion.

The Forum should also be an opportunity to announce the creation of an Expert Council, responsible for bringing together the scientific information available on the interactions between human health, animal health and environmental disorders.
