In the shadow of the unprecedented crisis in which the local film industry has fallen following the Corona epidemic, the Israeli Film and Television Academy will announce the winners of the Ophir Awards tomorrow.

Instead of a ceremony, the winners will be announced as part of a special "Cultural Agent" program hosted by Kobi Meidan, which will be broadcast at 3:00 PM on Channel 11. The film that will win the Best Film Award will represent Israel at the Oscars.

The standout films in this year's competition are "Asia," director Ruthie Perry Bar's debut film, which leads the group with 13 nominations;

"The Dead of Jaffa", by Ram Levy and "Aspiration for Life" by Matan Guggenheim, with 12 nominations each;

"Here We Are" by Nir Bergman with 10 nominations;

And "Africa" by Oren Garner with seven nominations.

Because cinemas in Israel have been closed since March, "The Dead of Jaffa" is in fact the only film out of the five that was exposed to the general public at commercial screenings.

"Asia," which recently won three awards at the Tribeca Festival, tells the story of a single mother (Alona Eve) who is dealing with the illness of her teenage daughter (Shira Haas).

"The Dead of Jaffa", starring Yusuf Abu Varda, Roba Balal-Asfur, and Salim Dow, follows a Jaffa couple who bring home three children from the West Bank, and is honored to be the first feature feature of veteran and esteemed television director Ram Levy ("Bread"). "Late divorce").

"Aspiration for Life" is a British-style comedy "Save Grace" about a grumpy widower (Shlomo Braba) who solves his housing problems through the medical marijuana market.

Other participants: Debbie Glickman, Joy Rieger, Gadi Yagil and Alon Neumann.

"Here We Are", by Nir Bergman ("Broken Wings", "Only for Today") deals with a divorced man (Shai Avivi) who embarks on a journey around the country with his autistic son (Noam Imber) in order to postpone their inevitable separation.

The screenplay was written by Dana Idisis ("On the Spectrum"), and during its round of festivals in recent months, the film (which was due to participate in the Cannes Film Festival this year) won the Audience Favorite Award at the French Montpellier Festival.

"Africa", Oren Garner's first film (which won three awards at the last Haifa Film Festival, including the Film and Actor Award), deals with a pensioner (Meir Garner, the director's father) who is having a hard time dealing with the loss of its relevance.

The five nominees who will compete this year in the Best Documentary category are "Golda" by Udi Nir, Sagi Bornstein and Shani Rosens;

"Comrade Dov" by Barak Heiman and Uri Levy who deals with former Knesset member Dov Hanin;

"Leah Tzemel, Lawyer" by Rachel Leah Jones and Philip Blaish;

"Enlighten Yossi" by Maurice Ben Muir and Kobi Faraj, which deals with the late Yossi Banai, and "Meir Ariel, a song of pain", by Eliav Lilti.
