Nearly one in two residents of this retirement home, which has around a hundred places, is affected.

This week, 56 elderly people cared for in the “Les Vignes” nursing home in Château-Porcien, in the Ardennes, as well as 21 members of staff, tested positive for Covid-19, France Bleu reports this Saturday.

According to L'Ardennais, it is now the largest cluster in the department.

The nursing home is also the most affected, among a third of Ardennes establishments that have become centers of contamination at the heart of this epidemic.

The Regional Health Agency (ARS) of the Grand-Est indicates, however, that these patients are for the great majority asymptomatic and it does not deplore either serious cases or hospitalization linked to the virus.

This large proportion of patients without symptoms would explain the time that elapsed before this source of contamination was brought to light, also justifies the ARS.

No more visits allowed

“At the beginning it was complicated, but we manage to manage.

It is important not that people panic, ”testified a member of the nursing staff to L'Ardennais.

And to insist: "Unlike the first wave, we even have the feeling that there are generally fewer symptoms in infected people."

The health authorities are in the process of tracing the chain of contamination and defining whether these patients could have infected others, in particular members of their family who were able to visit them, or relatives of caregivers.

In order to stem these transmissions, the nursing home announced last week, when the first case was detected, that it was stopping visits, indicates France Bleu.

Faced with the isolation of about twenty caregivers, the retirement home has also called for reinforcements and benefits from people from an on-call duty set up by the nearest hospital.
