Frankfurt: wheelchair users pushed in front of the subway - now the verdict was made

In a dispute over a bottle of schnapps, a 69-year-old in Frankfurt am Main pushed another man into a track bed. Now a judgment has been made - it is based on a grim social prognosis.

Because he ran into a wheelchair user on the track bed of the Frankfurt subway, the district court in Frankfurt am Main sentenced a 69-year-old to eight years imprisonment and subsequent preventive detention.

The jury chamber assumed attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm.

In the trial, the defendant had admitted that in January of this year he had hit the 32-year-old after a dispute over a bottle of schnapps at the subway station in the Dornbusch district.

An underground railcar arriving later was able to brake in good time.

The fact that there were a few abrasions on the victim's elbow bordered on "a miracle," the court ruled.

The defendant is said to have observed what happened after the crime from the platform across the street, completely unimpressed.

On the way home he was later arrested by the police.

The main evidence of the prosecution was a video recording that showed the defendants in the shock.

"Extremely empathetic and dissocial man"

The public prosecutor's office had already spoken out in favor of an eight-year prison sentence and subsequent preventive detention.

The main reason for this was the fact that the 69-year-old had already drowned his fiancée in a bathtub for a trivial reason in 2001 and was therefore sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

Because he did not use the subsequent imprisonment to work on himself and to use therapy options, the "extremely unresponsive and dissocial man" must continue to be very dangerous, said the presiding judge.

He also has a tendency to abuse alcohol and tablets.

According to an expert report, the accused also had about 2.5 per thousand alcohol in the blood at the time of the crime.

According to the judgment, however, this had not changed anything in terms of full responsibility and control.

Despite years of imprisonment, he is considered to be used to drinking.

The defense had seen no intention to kill and therefore only requested four years imprisonment for dangerous bodily harm.

The lawyer also declined preventive detention.

According to her own statements, she is now considering an appeal to the Federal Court of Justice.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.
