"Renationalise" the RSA: faced with the crisis, the departments appeal to the State

This is already a reality in many departments: the health crisis we are going through is coupled with a social crisis.

Concrete effect of worsening precarious situations: requests for RSA (Active Solidarity Income) explode in an unprecedented way.

According to the latest official figures, more than 1.9 million people were receiving the RSA at the end of March 2020, a figure which should increase sharply in the coming months due to the health crisis.

Since then, the departments have been confronted on average with an increase in requests of around 10%, according to expectations.

Some record peaks of up to 20%.

This makes some elected officials say that the situation is worse than during the previous global crisis of 2008.

The departments thus see their budgetary balance threatened.

Indeed, the RSA, allocated to those who have no or few resources, represents the largest item of social expenditure of the departmental councils.
