The media group Buzzfeed takes over the "HuffPost" web portal from the telecommunications giant Verizon.

The US companies in New York announced a corresponding agreement without giving any financial details.

The deal also provides for Verizon to receive a minority stake in Buzzfeed.

Both groups want to work together in the future as part of a strategic partnership on online content and advertising.

For Buzzfeed boss Jonah Peretti, the cooperation is a kind of reunification, he had once co-founded the »HuffPost«.

The "HuffPost" started in 2005 as the "Huffington Post" and was named after the co-founder and long-time editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington.

The German edition had been operated by Burda Verlag since 2013, but was discontinued at the end of March 2019.

The "Huffington Post" has been regarded as a new type of politically liberal news website since it was founded in the USA.

In 2011 a global expansion began, usually together with national media houses.

Buzzfeed put its German business up for public sale in April 2020 and handed it over to the Ippen publishing group in August.

The US company had separated from the German branch due to the economic consequences of the corona crisis.
