Covid-19: "Everything suggests that we have passed an epidemic peak", says Olivier Véran

Indeed, in recent days we have witnessed several positive signs at the national level.

The incidence of the epidemic is declining and, with it, the rate of positivity for screening tests.

The curve for the number of people hospitalized for Covid-19 appears to be stagnating, at levels comparable to the peak observed in April.

Likewise, the number of people placed in intensive care, at two-thirds of spring levels, seems to have reached a plateau.

A situation that is not yet clearly felt in terms of deaths, which remain at high levels, with 428 deaths recorded on November 17.

From a national perspective, the numbers speak for themselves.

It is another story at the local level, where the situation remains worrying in many departments.

Overview, indicator by indicator, of these territories where the epidemic does not seem, or not yet, to show signs of improvement.

The positivity rate continues to grow in 9 departments

It is the first link in the chain of care, screening.

And with it, the share of people tested positive, among all the samples examined in the laboratory.

An indicator that has improved considerably in recent days according to data transmitted by Public Health France.

In more than 90% of the territories, it is time to recede.

Conversely, the positivity rate is still increasing slightly in Vienne and in the Territoire de Belfort.

And more consistently in Moselle, Corrèze, Aude, Dordogne, Gers, where levels remain moderate.

There remain the Hautes-Pyrénées and the Ardèche where the positivity rate is still over 20%.

Hospitalizations continued to increase in 4 departments of the 5

"An impact on the healthcare system which is not immediate, according to the Regional Health Agency of the Grand-Est, which we interviewed, since the severe forms, requiring hospitalization, mainly occur 8 to 10 days later. the onset of the first signs of Covid-19 ”.

Indeed, the decline in hospital care for Covid-19 only decreases in 19 departments if we compare the figures for last week with those of the previous week.

A significant decline in areas with little stress, such as Lozère or Haute-Corse.

As well as in departments much more concerned, such as in Paris, in Hauts-de-Seine, Val-de-Marne or Val-d'Oise, where hospitalizations decrease slightly.

It is in the Grand-Est that the hospitals of many departments see red.

"The reduction in the pressure on the healthcare system is expected in the coming days" according to the ARS of the Grand-Est region.

"We are already seeing a decrease in Covid-19 activity among the 5 SOS Médecins associations in the region".

The impact on resuscitations and deaths is still pending

If the number of deaths is close to the levels observed in the spring, the number of people placed in resuscitation is only two-thirds of the levels observed in early April.

"The management and understanding of certain mechanisms of the virus have improved considerably since the spring" pointed out the ARS of Ile-de-France.
