The incidence of the virus in Spain falls day by day.

"It is going down, but the figures are still very high," said Fernando Simón, director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies (CCAES).

The accumulated cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days decreased to 436. 10 days ago this indicator reached the record for the pandemic, with 529 diagnoses.

At this rate, it is difficult for Spain to stop the transmission of the virus in the short term, taking into account that up to 250 is considered "extreme risk", according to the semaphore of the Ministry of Health.

The hit of the virus is less in most of the autonomous communities.

In the one that grew the most is Cantabria, which went from 533.49 to 547.26 in the last 24 hours.

It also increases in Asturias (649.59) and the Valencian Community (299.53), but they are very slight growth.

The community with the highest incidence of the virus is Castilla y León, with 794.19, followed by the Basque Country (718.64) and the autonomous city of Ceuta (746.66).

The Canary Islands continue to be the one that best controls the spread of the virus (82.66), followed by the Balearic Islands (233.5).

In the Peninsula, Madrid is already the second community with the lowest incidence (297.3), slightly above Galicia (288.39).

This Thursday's report on the evolution of the pandemic includes 16,233 new cases, almost a thousand more than the previous day.

They are many, but we are still far from the 20,000 daily diagnoses that were common in the previous three weeks.

The number of deaths in the last 24 hours falls substantially, "as we expected after days of decreasing cases," said Simón.

This Thursday 252 new deaths have been reported, well below the 435 on Tuesday, a record for the second wave.

It is the smallest rise in the death toll in 24 hours since November 3.

The peaks of new infections two or three weeks ago had as a consequence the high death figures of the latest Health reports.

Thus, on Wednesday we reached the maximum number of deaths accumulated in a week in the second wave, 1,346.

This figure drops very slightly this Thursday: 1,313.

On the other hand, Simón has warned of "a significant healthcare pressure", both in primary care and in the hospital network.

Hospital occupancy is falling "very slowly", according to Simón, as is the pressure in ICUs.

Covid patients account for 31.66% of the total in intensive care units.

For the risk to be considered low, this percentage must be between 5% and 10%.

"We expect a slight favorable decline in the coming days," added Simón.

The director of the CCAES has also highlighted the drop in the positivity of the tests, which means that the cases are increasingly better.

"The positivity continues to decline progressively, now it is at 12.12%, when last week it was above 13%," he commented.
