(In the video: another lovely trip in the Golan Heights)

About the place:

Route 98 leads to spectacular views, photogenic springs and fascinating battle heritage sites.

But few people know Horbat Faraj (also called Poppy).

True, this is not a destination in itself but a stop during a trip in the Golan Heights, but it is definitely a fascinating stop, which brings with it the pleasure of discovering new places.

The Faraj ruin stretches over tens of dunams and is dotted with quite a few ancient buildings, partly ruined, made of severe basalt rocks.

The remains of the village, which began in the Hellenistic and Roman periods, also include a Jewish period in the first centuries AD, after which, in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Circassians lived in it during the period when the village was alive.

In 1976, after the Golan returned to Israel, members of the Bnei Akiva movement settled in the village houses, who were the first settlers of Moshav Yonatan, which moved to its permanent location in 1978.

Start walking:

Here a short linear path winds, at the level of bone extraction only (about a kilometer in each direction).

It starts in a beautiful eucalyptus grove and continues alongside the ancient buildings.

The trail is marked in the colors of the "Golan Trail" (white, blue, green).

At the beginning of the trail it is worth turning left for a moment, abandoning the Golan Trail for a moment, and reaching some crowded buildings.

Try to discover a hidden relief, in which a stone decorated with a cluster of grapes.

Now, feel free to return to the hiking trail and discover more surprises along the way.

Make an impression on the guys:

Did you think "horny" is a derogatory word?

In fact, Horan is a region in southern Syria, and the style of construction that characterizes the Faraj ruin is called "Horni construction."

The style is characterized by basalt stones and the ceiling of basalt slabs supported by columns and arches.

Here you will discover many beautiful arches, interesting windows in the basalt walls, basalt-hewn stairs and more.

One more thing:

a short distance from here, a guest pool (Juhader) awaits you.

Now while the days are too cold to take a dip in this beautiful officers pool, this is a great place to paddle in a picturesque landscape, along with coffee and snacks.

Great fun.

Arrive:

"Horbat Poppy" in Wise (without the letter A).

The entrance to the trail is not from Highway 98, but from a westbound turn, onto a dirt road.

Camp near a narrow cattle gate and arrive.

If the vehicle gate is open - you have gained a few minutes walk.

Entrance to and climbing of buildings is prohibited.
