Jimmy Page on his return to the stage, but without Led Zeppelin

The guitarist, who has defended the virtues of live music, absent since the start of the pandemic, plans, at 76, to resume concerts.


Despite pushing some to satisfy urges that are artistic in name only, confinement could ultimately have a positive impact on the ears of music lovers.

During a long interview in the US edition of

magazine

, Jimmy Page, original guitarist for Led Zeppelin, spoke of a possible return to the stage.

A comeback at 76, motivated precisely by the absence of concerts in these times of pandemic.

What this virus has done internationally to families, to the arts, to everything we love and cherish and to the whole concert situation, it concerns me

," said the musician, who describes the current period as "

sad and desperate

”in remarks taken up by the

NME

.

When we first went into confinement, I said to myself, 'Okay, now's the time to start thinking about coming back and being able to play,'

” he continued.

Before adding however that he “

would never be one of those people who will record alone and send a file to someone

.

I never got into music to do that, it was to play together and that's what that means

", he clarified before launching, and while the livestream concerts are multiply, in a real plea on the importance of live music.

We have to play with people, we need concerts and we need unity.

Because without that, the music doesn't mean anything,

”he continued.

Playing live is so important for young musicians.

When we were young, we had lots of small concerts, [...] it is a very important part of the communion of musicians

”.

Many questions still hang over this potential return to business, but one certainty: Jimmy Page should not be reunited with Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham (son of and drummer at the last Let Zeppelin reunion).
