How will society deal with the challenges of the corona crisis?
Many people asked themselves this question back in spring.
Musician Bela B has now drawn a sobering interim conclusion: "At first I thought people would start to show consideration for each other," said the drummer of the Berlin band Die Ärzte of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".
"But in the meantime money is again determining the deal."
The band, which includes guitarist and singer Farin Urlaub, 57, and bassist Rodrigo Gonzalez, 52, besides Bela B, is trying to pay attention to environmental aspects and fairness in merchandising, said the 57-year-old.
“It is clear that we also earn money with it.
But the shirts don't necessarily have to be sewn by minors in sweatshops. "
With the corona crisis, the music industry is breaking down central sources of income because of canceled concerts.
“Today's generations will have to come to terms with the fact that there is hardly any money to be made with sound carriers.
A band like Beatsteaks sells many times more in live tickets than in sound storage units, «said Bela B.
Because of Corona, the previously independent industry is on the ground.
“1.4 million people, who up to now almost never needed support, are now virtually unemployed,” said Bela B. “And I don't primarily mean the musicians, I mean all the roadies, sound engineers, drum tuners, party deejays, dancers and others so on."
The doctors have done well, according to their drummer.
"We sell records halfway," said the 57-year-old.
"But the people who work with us, for example, are not lucky."
