In normal times, this message would be superfluous, but 2020 will not end as a normal year either: ARD and ZDF broadcast their New Year's Eve shows as planned, even if the big party at the Brandenburg Gate has to be canceled.

Outdoor events with more than 100 participants are currently prohibited in the capital according to the Infection Protection Ordinance.

ZDF confirmed that the New Year's Eve countdown with Andrea Kiewel and Johannes B. Kerner will be planned as a live broadcast as usual.

"It is clear that the focus is on the viewers on the screens who are supposed to follow the countdown from home," said a ZDF spokesman on Monday.

The organizer of Germany's largest New Year's Eve party announced: »Only the participating stars and artists will be present in addition to those involved in the production, taking all applicable hygiene and safety measures into account.

Unfortunately, on-site participation for visitors is not possible. «So far, Peter Maffay, Álvaro Soler, the Höhner and the British singer-songwriter Tom Gregory have been announced in the music program.

When asked, an ARD spokeswoman confirmed that the New Year's Eve show with Jörg Pilawa would also be broadcast as planned, including switching to the fireworks at the Brandenburg Gate.

In the show, DJ Ötzi, Beatrice Egli, Karat, Peggy March and Marianne Rosenberg, among others, are supposed to create a party atmosphere.
