Under the title (A Community Partnership for a Bright Tomorrow), the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the University of Damascus today inaugurated the third session of the Graduation Projects and Outstanding Student Research Exhibition for 2020 in cooperation with the College of Informatics Engineering, the College of Applied and the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology and a number of private universities, companies and economic events.

The exhibition, which will last until the 26th of this month, aims to develop students' inventions and projects and their applied and research innovations to become a marketable product and create job opportunities for communication between industrial companies and each of the educational body supervising the projects and students who have implemented projects and achieve communication with agencies and companies wishing to raise issues Or projects to develop in the following years.

In his speech during the inauguration of the exhibition, Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdin, President of Damascus University, affirmed that partnership between universities, local community institutions and the private sector is vital to transform ideas into pioneering projects, which requires those in charge of universities and scientific research centers to make efforts and work on linking research and implementation projects with the requirements of the labor market. .

Dr. Mustafa Al-Mawalidi, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering pointed out that despite the difficult circumstances, faculty members and students were able to produce approximately 800 practical and theoretical projects that include creative ideas and creative inventions that need to be embraced and supported to become a marketable product and thus support the industry sector and its advancement in the stage of re-education Ages.

Dr. Majd Al-Jamali, Director General of the Higher Commission for Scientific Research, considered that the exhibition has witnessed a great development in terms of the number of participants and supporting bodies since its launch in 2018, stressing the Commission’s support for any initiative and student activity that contributes to investing the outputs of scientific research that support the economy and development in Syria.

Dr. Salah Al-Dewah Ji, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics, talked about the Society's objectives and its role in promoting the informatics sector and its related sectors, indicating that achieving these goals and translating them requires work programs and the concerted efforts of all parties in it (universities, the industrial sector, and the producers of the informatics sector) and cooperation with institutions And local and international organizations in this field.

Engineer Iyad pointed out the request of a member of the Executive Office of the National Union of Syrian Students to the union’s keenness to provide support and care for any initiative that would activate the scientific and research activities for students in the future.

In turn, Adham Tarroudi, Director of Development and Research at Syriatel, confirmed that the company has adopted a strategy based on investing in the Syrian mind and trying to raise the competencies of the nation’s people by supporting young skills by supporting innovation and creativity projects that ultimately aim to rely on national competencies to build skills and experiences that supply the sector. Public and private qualified cadres.

Parroudi pointed out that Syriatel had successful experiences in the field of supporting and sponsoring innovation projects, as it worked on framing cooperation relations by developing memoranda of understanding with many government agencies and public and private universities, as well as through sponsorship and technical supervision on student projects from master's thesis and graduation projects for year students. The activities of the first day of the exhibition included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the Damascus Chamber of Industry and its countryside with the aim of documenting and strengthening joint cooperation and achieving integration in the scientific and practical fields, developing human resources, implementing and developing industrial projects that meet the needs of society and giving students the necessary skills to enter them in the labor market in addition to The opening of the permanent exhibition hall for student projects to remain available throughout the year in the college in a way that achieves and allows continuous communication with the relevant industrial and production bodies.

The Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was established in 1962 as an industrial higher institute and turned into a college in 1972 based on Legislative Decree No. 38 of 1972 and includes eight engineering departments in addition to the Department of Basic Sciences and is one of the largest colleges of the University of Damascus, with more than 17 thousand students.
