(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, NOVEMBER 24 - Dutch populist parliamentarian Thierry Baudet has announced that he will resign from his post as leader of the Forum for Democracy (FvD), after media reports made anti-Semitic and homophobic statements from his party's youth movement.

Baudet, whose successor has not yet been named, has also indicated that he will no longer be the head of the FvD list at the next elections, scheduled for March 2021. He will however retain his role as a deputy in the lower house of parliament.

"I give up my place on the electoral roll. I make my position available. I will obviously remain in the lower house where I was elected," he said in a video on Twitter.

Some media recently reported that Semitic and homophobic messengers were circulating in online groups of the JFVD, the youth movement of the FvD, prompting sharp criticism within the party itself.

Describing this information as "terrible", Mr. Baudet said however that he regretted that some party members did not want to wait for an internal investigation before "throwing people under a bus", denouncing a "media culture of trial".
