There has been hardly a single week in the last six months where we have not been informed of a new shipment of another restaurant struggling for its existence, or of chefs you would never have imagined would agree to pack the dozens of ingredients they carefully place daily on a plate and place them in a slightly sad plastic box.

But 2020 has proven to us that it must be temporary, and the temporary, well, is a blue plastic crate at best.

But it’s worth remembering that even before players like the Thai House or Taizo entered the Asian shipping world, the Giraffe network dominated it with a level hand.

She did not need the corona to learn to make deliveries, she was the pioneer.

Maybe it's to her advantage that she does not need "Walt" for her unfounded commissions, maybe it is to her detriment that we have all become suckers of thrills and innovations.

Indeed, in contrast to shipments, on the vegan cart it seems that they actually jumped a little late.

Including sushi that will also confuse omnivores.

If so far the average vegan has not had much to look for in a giraffe, the chain has re-tuned and decided to produce a vegan-vegetarian menu.

In the chain, Fish have developed a dedicated horse, a key ingredient in their Pad Thai, for example, as well as an algae-based sauce that mimics the taste of fish sauce, and an oyster horse vegetable, itself a significant ingredient in Asian cuisine.

The tofu is already present in some of the dishes of the chain, which is requested thanks to the fact that in Asian cuisines it is not a substitute for anything, and stands on its own, and is now joined by soy protein that is found in some dishes and is supposed to mimic the taste and texture of meat.

So what does the new menu include?

Five starters, including two salads, six noodle dishes, four rice dishes, three types of sushi and two soups.

The menu relies mostly on East Asian cuisines, but it also has Indian guest appearances (cauliflower and lentil soup), which on the face of it could have been dispensed with because they are a tad forced within a large, homogeneous menu.

But let’s start with the paragon, because the corona has taught us that the world outside is shit enough, and when there is a good word to say: the vegan-vegetarian delivery of the giraffe was delicious and successful.

It started with a nice branding on the perishable boxes, and of course continued with their contents.

To best check what the new shipment is worth we asked to order the classics identified with the chain.

We started with the new Empress (62 shekels) which was perhaps the best in the dishes, rich and smoky in taste, with a considerable amount of tofu, broccoli and very good whole wheat noodles that are prepared in the net every day.

We continued to the spicy Filipina (59 shekels) which came with udon noodles and was probably the weak link in the delivery, with spicy but very flat flavors, probably because of the coconut milk it contains.

Orange curry (65 shekels) with pumpkin and tofu that came with white rice is an old-fashioned dish on the net, and perfect for cold weather, as it is heavier and includes a combination of sweet and spicy flavors (at least on paper, we did not get spicy enough).

Along with the mains came two salads - tofu and cucumbers (36 shekels) refreshing and fresh with strips of a kind of tofu schnitzel, which can stand on its own as a main course, and a Thai salad (37 shekels) of carrots, cucumbers, gamba and radish in peanut sauce that was fun and crispy as it should be .

We also ordered a vegan sushi roll - a combination that may sound like an oxymoron to carnivores, but in practice - and let’s face it once and for all - because sushi has a predominant algae flavor, even omnivores will probably not notice the fish is absent.

The sushi, which contained tamago, shiitake and sweet potato, was fresh and invested even though it had fallen apart a bit.

For dessert came a caramel ganache with a layer of chocolate which was very sweet.

Just as we expected.

So the giraffe decided that veganism is no longer a bad word, whether it is in light of the rising demand for dishes without animal products, or for ecological motives, and as mentioned invested not only in the plant menu but also in biodegradable boxes.

After all, our delicious delivery - for two diners - was joined by no less than seven sets of plastic and chopsticks.

So true, these are times of deliveries and one-time plates, but if it continues like this, it will not be the corona that will kill us.
