First the cities, now the country

Due to increasing cases of Covid disease, clinics in the rural Midwest of the USA are completely overloaded. Is Trump's negligence now taking revenge?

Tammy Benewiat, relatives:

“If you were in the same room with him, he could sense that he is not alone.

But if you stand out here, he won't notice anything. "

Tammy Benewiat has been waiting at the window of a hospital room for a sign from her husband for an hour.

But Daniel Benewiat is passed out.

He has Covid-19 and is receiving intensive treatment.

He can only get air with the help of a ventilator.

Tammy Benewiat, relatives:

“I was about to leave when I saw him wink.

For me it was a wink.

My daughter said there was probably a muscle twitch in his eye.

But then both eyes would twitch.

It was just the one eye he kept winking at me.

And then I thought, maybe he'll wake up if I give him a second. "

Daniel Benewiat, according to his wife, always wore a face mask while working and tried to protect himself.

Then he got infected with the corona virus at a doctor's appointment, at least that's what they suspect.

The number of infections in the USA continues to rise dramatically.

Just before Thanksgiving, the country has more than 12 million corona cases.

In the past two weeks, between 100,000 and 200,000 infections have been added - every day.

At the beginning of the pandemic, it was mainly the big cities that made headlines across the country as corona hotspots, but most recently the corona pandemic mainly hit rural areas in the Midwest.

The hospitals there are at their limit.

Kristy Sourk, intensive care nurse:

“We have to cater to the same types of patients as a larger facility, but with fewer staff.

Casting is definitely a struggle for us.

Many of us work overtime.

I even worked night shifts, even though I'm not actually deployed at night. "

In Kansas, coronavirus-related hospital admissions have more than doubled in the past two weeks.

A large part of the population does not seem to have taken the first wave seriously.

Will their president now be the undoing of the conservative rural population?

After all, over 56 percent of Kansas voters voted for Donald Trump.

And he played the corona crisis down again and again, did not believe in lockdown and wearing masks.

Kristy Sourk, intensive care nurse:

“We are a completely divided area.

Even people who work as carers don't always believe in the mask.

They may believe in the disease, but they don't believe the masks will help prevent it from spreading. "

Most recently, Trump even pretended that the pandemic was over.

He did little in the fight against Corona - although the lives of tens of thousands of Americans across the country depend on it.

Nine states now report twice as many new cases every day as they did two weeks ago.

And there is no end in sight to the rise.
