(ANSA) - PARIS, NOV 24 - The Louvre museum today announced the acquisition, for its painting department, of a large painting by Giambattista Tiepolo, "Juno in the clouds" (3.50 x 2.10 m), commissioned for the Sagredo palace in Venice and built around 1735. This was announced by a press release from the Parisian museum.
The work, informs the Louvre, "was acquired by a private collector thanks to the exceptional patronage of the Society of Friends of the Louvre, which supported the operation at the level of 1.5 million euros.
The painting represents Juno, the goddess of fertility. , of motherhood and marriage, sister and wife of Jupiter. She is represented alone, out of any narrative context, in an abstract and luminous space. Dressed in a white shirt, short sleeves and a wide light pink dress, (ANSA).
