50 years ago, the first »Tatort« ran on ARD with »Taxi to Leipzig«. For the anniversary there is a double episode about the activities of the 'Ndrangheta in Germany. Dominik Graf and the Dortmund team staged the first part (broadcast: November 29th) from the perspective of a Calabrian family of restaurateurs caught by the Mafia. The second (December 6th) staged Pia Strietmann as a tragedy of a young woman who rears up against the clan. Two Sundays, two styles, two stories - but these are closely linked through the characters. In a conference call, Strietmann and Graf talk about the importance of the crime classic for the German television industry and that of the 'Ndrangheta for the global economy.

How do you come up with the idea in 2020?
Wouldn't a thriller about Arab clans or the Chechen mafia be more obvious?
Graf:
At the beginning I was also careful: What can we add from Germany to the many existing stories about the Italian mafia?
But the approach of the screenwriter Bernd Lange was completely new.
My episode is not about the big bosses, but about how a Calabrian family of restaurateurs in Dortmund is thrown into chaos by a scrapped mini-mafioso.
