César 2021: Marina Foïs, new mistress of ceremony

2020-11-26T04:25:21.948Z

To make people forget a complicated 2020 edition, marked by the resignation of Alain Terzian and the controversial victory of Polanski, the Cesars have chosen the actress to embody the renewal of the academy and succeed Florence Foresti.

The calm after the storm.

At least that's what the Caesars hope, summoned to restore their image after a last edition which had chosen to crown Roman Polanski in the midst of the #MeToo scandal.

Also accused of sexism and self-esteem, the institution has separated from the "

historical

", with the resignation in particular of its president Alain Terzian, in office for 17 years.

A fully joint organization finally succeeded him, made up of 164 elected members and two new leaders, Véronique Cayla and director Éric Toledano.

Symbol of this change of course, the Academy has chosen Marina Foïs - member of the new board of directors - to present the 46th Nuit des Césars, reports

Le Parisien

.

A first in a tense context for the 50-year-old actress, who has never yet donned the costume of mistress of ceremonies for the prestigious evening.

Cold with the institution, she had in particular co-signed, with 400 filmmakers, a platform asking "

more equality, more diversity, less a priori, more mixes

", recalls the Paris daily.

After making her debut alongside Jean-Paul Rouve and Pierre-François Martin-Laval in the

Robins des Bois

troupe

in the 1990s, the actress went on to perform French comedies (

La Tour Montparnasse Infernale, Asterix and Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre, Hours !!!

).

Far from letting herself be locked into a single register, she then illustrated herself in dramatic films, in particular

Darling

by Christine Carrière and

Polisse

by Maïwenn, which both earned her a César nomination.

This year she starred in

Huge

with Jonathan Cohen.

For her first on the Salle Pleyel stage, Marina Foïs will be able to count on a brand new team.

The director of the show changes after 20 years of good and loyal service.

Tristan Carné will succeed Jerome Revon to capture the evening, broadcast on February 26, 2021 live on Canal +.

The health crisis and its impact on public gatherings and cinemas could however postpone this next edition, definitely not like the others.
