Beyoncé and Taylor Swift will duel as favorites at the next Grammy Awards, albeit with the permission of Dua Lipa, the big surprise after the announcement of the nominees on Tuesday.
The Recording Academy announced from Los Angeles the candidates for the 63rd edition of the most recognized music awards, given this 2020 to
Folklore
, Swift's album composed during the quarantine by the coronavirus, and
Black Parade
, the song that Beyoncé launched to the heat of the racial protests of his country.
Among the surprises, the success of Dua Lipa, who aspires to win in the most important categories as album and song of the year thanks to his retro-inspired work,
Future Nostalgia
, and the two nominations of Bad Bunny, one along with the British and another for
his album YHLQMDLG
in the Latin section.
For its part, the complete absence of The Weeknd is the great disappointment of the edition, since it appeared in all pools as a favorite for
After Hours
and
Blinding Lights
.
Nor does Bob Dylan appear, despite the fact that this year he had signed one of his best-received albums by critics in decades (
Rough and Rowdy Ways,
the first with new songs in eight years) while Coldplay surprised with a single but notorious nomination for the album of the year for
Everyday Life
, one of his least celebrated works.
'Folklore': Taylor Swift is no longer circumstantial
Beyoncé celebrates black culture in 'Black is King' with a lot of form and little background
Despite the fact that the two best albums of Beyoncé's career, the namesake
Beyoncé
and
Lemonade
, never won the Grammy, this year the artist from Texas is the most nominated, with nine nominations, thanks to the songs and individual works she has published throughout the year.
In this way, the
Crazy In Love
singer
starts off as a favorite in one of her least productive periods.
His assets will be a song that addresses racism in the United States,
Black Parade
, and
Savage
, the latter a remix by Megan Thee Stallion which he joined when the song was already a viral success.
The film
Black is King
, released in collaboration with Disney, ended up completing its list of mentions.
The case of Taylor Swift is the opposite.
The artist owes all her nominations to
Folklore
, an album released by surprise in the summer, composed and recorded under high secrecy during the coronavirus quarantine and which has raised the artistic status of its author with critical acclaim.
Thanks to that work, Swift could win the Grammy for album of the year for the third time, a record only held by two artists: Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder.
The artist aims to win six Grammy Awards, thanks to the mentions obtained for two songs on the album,
Cardigan
and
Exile
, in addition to her theme for the soundtrack of
Cats
.
Dua Lipa starred in the big surprise.
Just two years ago, the revelation artist won the Grammy and he aspires to win in three star categories: recording, song and album of the year.
Future Nostalgia
, a retro-inspired album featuring anthems like
Don't Start Now,
has positioned the British woman in a global superstar status that could deliver big surprises at the January 31 gala.
Lipa garnered six nominations, the same as Swift and rapper Roddy Ricch, somewhat more unknown outside the United States.
Bad Bunny, with two nominations, Ricky Martin and Camilo are some of the artists nominated in the Latin categories.
The Academy selected the albums
YHLQMDLG,
by Bad Bunny;
Pausa
, by Ricky Martin,
Por Primera Vez
, by Camilo;
Mesa Para Dos
, by Kany Garcia;
and
3:33
, by Debi Nova, to compete for the award in the category of Best Latin Pop Album.
Natalia Lafourcade, who last week won the Latin Grammy for album of the year, appears in this case in the section of regional Mexican music.
Among the other favorites are popular stars like Post Malone, Justin Bieber, Megan Thee Stallion and Billie Eilish, last year's big winner, but also a host of artists from diverse genres and backgrounds.
The Academy has wanted to open up to diversity in the general categories and has included somewhat unexpected works among the candidates: The
soul
of Black Puas, the hip-hop of Jhené Aiko and the
indie
rock
of the Haim sisters, whose
Women In Music Pt
.
III has drawn praise in the alternate world.
