(ANSA) - OUAGADOUGOU, NOV 26 - The President of Burkina Faso Roch Marc Christian Kaboré won in the first round the elections last November 22 with 57.87 percent of the votes, thus reconfirming himself for the second consecutive term.
This was announced by Newton Ahmed Barry, president of the electoral commission.
"Mr. Kaboré, Roch Marc Christian, with 58.87 percent of the vote, is provisionally declared elected in the first round as president of (Burkina) Faso," said Barry. Eddie Komboïgo, candidate of former president BlaiseCompaoré's party, came second with 15.48 percent of the vote, followed by Zephirin Diabré, considered by experts to be the leader of the opposition but who obtained 12.46 percent of the votes.
