“France is one of the countries where the epidemic decline is the strongest.

This is what the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, assured during his speech on November 26.

Like its European neighbors, France was hit hard by a second noticeable wave in September.

Where are our counterparts from the Old Continent?

And where are we in relation to them, in terms of contamination, but also of death?

Overview of the indicators available to us.

72% drop in positive tests, in less than three weeks

In France, the peak of the second wave seems to have taken place at the end of October.

Since then the observed decline has been uninterrupted.

As of November 22, there were only a quarter of the positive tests taken three weeks earlier.

If the rate of decline naturally differs according to the territories, all the departments have reversed the incidence curve between the end of October and the beginning of November 2020.

Seen from Europe, a significant drop

While most of our European neighbors have also managed to reverse the situation, the decline in the number of positive tests is not happening at the same rate as in France.

Especially since the Hexagon started from afar: at the end of October, we recorded two to three times more contaminations than in our European neighbors.

In Germany, in particular, contamination seems to be stagnating.

The same phenomenon was visible in the United Kingdom, which seems to have recently managed to reverse the trend.

It is in Belgium, which had exceeded 15,000 contaminations in October, where we are witnessing a decline close to that which we are experiencing in France.

For now, a lesser effect on deaths

Naturally, a time lag is perceptible between contaminations, screenings, hospitalizations and deaths.

As such, the inversion of the death curve in France has only been noticeable since November 22.

If the decline seems to be confirmed day by day, it is occurring at a slower pace than on the screening front.

An encouraging trend, however, against the United Kingdom, Germany and especially Italy, which record an ever higher number of deaths.

Since the start of the week, our transalpine neighbors have overtaken France.

A situation which should improve in the coming days if we are to believe the recent reversal in the number of cases detected in the country.

In the world, it is in the United States that Covid-19 continues to kill the most.

Since the start of the crisis, Americans remain by far the most affected, ahead of Brazil, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Italy and France.
