He had apparently only recently bought the animal under dubious circumstances: A man was so overwhelmed with his Rottweiler that he dialed the emergency number. Police officers also had problems taking the dog away.

At the main train station in Bremen, an aggressive and frightened Rottweiler and his new owner triggered a police operation with the platform closed.

According to the federal police, the 23-year-old had bought the animal under questionable conditions on Wednesday evening from a man for 50 euros at the train station an hour before it was used.

The contact between the two men came about after a classified ad in an internet forum.

"The mere dubious circumstance of acquiring a living being without rest and trust in the seller" at the train station "was incomprehensible to the federal police," the message says.

The insecure dog had bitten the 23-year-old, said the authority.

The man did not know what to do differently than to tie the emaciated, about 30 kilogram heavy Rottweiler to a pillar on platform 2 and to alert the police via emergency call.

Rottweiler in quarantine in animal shelter

However, the male did not let anyone near and bared his teeth against the federal police officers.

It was out of the question to muzzle him.

It was also unclear whether the line could tear.

Platforms 1-3 were closed and trains relocated to protect passengers.

The dog was eventually given a sedative through food.

Service dog handlers of the Federal Police then managed to maneuver him into a transport box with a handrail.

The malnourished Rottweiler is in quarantine in an animal shelter and can hopefully be placed in good hands one day with the necessary care, it said.
