The King of Naples is dead.
Moments after the news of Maradona's death at the age of 60, hundreds of Neapolitans flocked to the streets of their city to pay homage to their idol.
Flowers, candles and messages began to be placed in front of the mural with the effigy of the Argentine football genius.
“Maradona is written in our blood,” explains a supporter who came to meditate.
"He is part of us, it's inexplicable."
“El Pibe de Oro” (The Golden Kid) enabled SSC Napoli to win their only two Italian league titles in 1987 and 1990 as well as a UEFA Cup.
“It was the king.
A part of the city died, it was a heart and a mind, ”commented with emotion Gianni, a waiter at a bar near Plebiscito Square.
“Right now it's time to cry, and then it's time to talk.
"
After decreeing a day of mourning, the mayor of Naples Luigi De Magistris, proposed to give the name of Diego Maradona and to rename the stadium San Paolo.
The one who scored 115 goals for the club had also been declared an honorary citizen of the city.
In a few hours, the Neapolitans have written the bond that unites them to their champion on many walls: “Forever.
Ciao Diego ”.
