A guaranteed miracle cure against corona?

The One America News Network (OANN) went too far, according to YouTube.

The video platform has banned the right wing channel for a week from publishing new videos.

That said a YouTube spokeswoman for the Reuters news agency.

OANN has repeatedly violated the platform's rules against incorrect information about the corona virus, among other things.

In order to continue to earn money with its content on YouTube, the station will have to apply again, it said.

OANN keeps spreading conspiracy theories.

The arch-conservative broadcaster is a comparatively small channel.

But when the outgoing US President Donald Trump felt more and more betrayed by the conservative broadcaster Fox News in the final spurt of the election campaign, he quickly named OANN as his new favorite channel, repeatedly sharing the broadcaster's posts on Twitter, calling it a "great alternative" Fox News - and gave OANN a whole new level of popularity.

In return, OANN offered Trump a platform to spread his unsubstantiated allegations of fraud in the presidential election.

YouTube also announced that it had a "three-strikes policy" that after the third violation, an account would be permanently removed from the platform.

OANN received the first warning with the video.

In the article, despite the lack of scientific evidence, hydroxychloroquine, praised by Trump as a possible "gift from heaven", was named as a miracle cure for Covid 19 patients - regardless of the fact that the US drug agency had withdrawn the drug's approval in June .

There are indications that the antimalarial drug is not effective and could also cause serious side effects.

YouTube and other major platforms are repeatedly criticized for handling misinformation on their websites.

On Tuesday, four Democratic US Senators wrote to YouTube boss Susan Wojcicki, with a view to the runoff election in the US state of Georgia, asking to remove content that spreads misinformation about election results.
