Corona: doctor's boss expects residents to be skeptical about vaccinations

Older people are considered to be a corona risk group - but by no means all of them will be vaccinated, suspects the head of statutory health insurance doctors in Schleswig-Holstein. A refusal is also "okay".

The Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians Schleswig-Holstein (KVSH) expects that 25 percent of home residents in Germany will not be vaccinated against Corona.

“We know that there are older people who refuse to be vaccinated,” KVSH boss Monika Schliffke told SPIEGEL.

Such behavior is "also okay in a free society".

In their opinion, a high vaccination rate among medical staff is crucial for "fear-free home and hospital care".

Here you expect only five percent refusal, so Schliffke.

In Schleswig-Holstein, these two groups should be vaccinated first, which the KVSH estimates will take until the beginning of March.

Vaccination centers are to be established across Germany by mid-December.

The first vaccine should be available shortly.

According to Schliffke, vaccination will "be possible from the age of 16 at the earliest, and possibly only from 18".

Since none of the corona vaccines have been tested on children, it should not be given to them.

The KVSH boss assumes that up to 80 doctors will be vaccinating every day in Schleswig-Holstein.

They also rely on doctors who are retired or on parental leave.

Family doctors might be more likely to vaccinate on weekends and on free afternoons.

Nobody should have to close their practice.

"We will definitely manage that in terms of personnel," said Schliffke.

Mobile vaccination teams are responsible for home residents, said Schliffke.

The medical staff must call the hotline 116 117.

It applies nationwide.

Appointments at vaccination centers can also be arranged.

There will "not" be an invitation procedure in Schleswig-Holstein.
